Info:
This MendelMax inspired printer is compact, lightweight, and totally self contained. Nothing protrudes beyond the frame. Z axis motors are mounted low, and thrust bearings carry the weight. Note that the z axis uses the aluminum extrusion for a guide, saving space and expense. The linear bearings and belt and pulley upgrades give high quality prints. All dimensions are chosen so that you can use 4 smooth rods and 2 threaded rods, plus all other parts from you mendel.
All parts are easy to print without support. The 60 W onboard power supply runs the motors and extruder heater. The heated bed used a 120 vac and a solid state relay. The extruder is very accessible. The heatsinks on the extruder are optional, but help keep thing cool when printing ABS.
The extruder is at thingiverse.com/thing:16143
See BOM and exploded veiw of X axis below
I added a pdf of an exploded frame drawing 1/19/12
Wire clips and T-slot cover for Misumi extrusions are at thingiverse.com/thing:16344
Below is a zipped archive of all the Inventor source files.
New pdf exploded printer drawing below. 1/27/12
Check out the animated assembly at the bottom of the downloads. A few things are out of sequence and it's low res, but may be useful.
Instructions
PLA can be drilled and tappped if you go slowly. This design requires the use of a 6-32 and 8-32 tap. These can be obtained from any hardware store. PLA also holds sheet metal screws very well if you drill the appropriate size hole. I use a 1/8" drill bit for a #8 screw. This is much easier and stronger than trying to use captive nuts. I will work on a exploded drawing to aid assembly if there is interest. The parts were designed with Autodesk Inventor, and I will provide files if requested. The BOM has the parts and sources for converting a prusa mendel to this model.

Quick change MakerGear extruder body
plik do pobrania : ExtruderBody.zip
Info:
This is the extruder used on Aluminum Mendel. It combines the features of its ancestors that I liked best. It provides more internal filament support than the standard body for less filament buckling. Changeover is very fast.
Instructions
All items will print without support except the cam. Print body and idler mount in ABS, PLA won't take the heat. I added heat sinks because the X carriage is very narrow in this design without much area to dissipate heat . They are not totally necessary, but do help when using high extruder temperatures.

T-slot cover and wire clips for Aluminum Mendel
Plik do pobrania: T-slot.zip
Info:
The T-slot cover and wire clips are for Misumi 30 mm extrusions with an 8 mm slot. These items help you manage the wires on your printer by running them in the slots and covering them or holding them in clips externally. They are used on the Aluminum Mendel , which is fully wired and functional in the photo on its page
Instructions
The T-slot cover snaps securely into the slot after the wires are in place. The wire clips are inserted in the slot and twisted clockwise with a pliers to lock into place. I cut some of the clips with a side cutter so I could slip the wires in from the side rather than threading them through the holes. Caution: Do not bundle the limit switch wires tightly with the stepper power wires. Currents induced in the limit switch circuits will cause erratic operation with RAMPS. The photo showing the black and white wires zip tied to the bundle is an appropriate application.
