Can I use my own DSL-modem for an edpnet xDSL subscription
en » Support » Ordering » Internet » Can I use my own DSL-modem for an edpnet xDSL subscription
Yes, you can, BUT…
With an ADSL subscription you can use any modem that supports ADSL. Still, thinking ahead, you'd better choose a modem that can be connected to a VDSL network, because one day you will probably want or have to switch to VDSL.
With a VDSL subscription you need to have a VDSL modem with a firmware certified by Proximus. In case you do not have it, you will get a so called fall-back profile, with the maximum speed of 7,5 Mbps down and 0,5 Mbps up.
Beside the modems offered by Proximus (b-box3, o-box3 and the older models like b-box2 and Sagem Fast 3464), edpnet has ensured that 4 FRITZ!Box modems are officially certified for the national DSL network in Belgium:
FRITZ!Box 3490 (firmware FRITZ!OS 6.52)
FRITZ!Box 7360 (v1 firmware FRITZ!OS 6.31, v2 firmware FRITZ!OS 6.52)
FRITZ!Box 7430 (firmware FRITZ!OS 6.52)
FRITZ!Box 7490 (firmware FRITZ!OS 6.52)
The FRITZ!Box 7430 en 7490 can be obtained at edpnet.
In case some other FRITZ!OS version is being used, you will get a fall-back profile.
If you choose an edpnet telephony subscription, you will need a modem which supports VoIP (internet telephony). The offered FRITZ!Box modems fully support VoIP. In case you would like to use a different modem than the ones we offer, you are taking responsibility for the smooth operation of your telephony. Our help desk will only provide you with the necessary details (phone number, password, server address, port). Thus, if something doesn’t work as it should, unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a solution.
Should you want to save up money, you can find the above-mentioned FRITZ!Box devices at a good price on the second-hand sites. Just take it into account that you won’t be able to take advantage of the standard warranty that edpnet gives on FRITZ!Box devices. Moreover, in this case, you are fully responsible for the installation and configuration of your modem. If it doesn’t work as it should, unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a solution.
In other words, we strongly recommend buying your modem at edpnet. Because then we can ensure the optimal support in all circumstances.
