How does the aiming on the light zapper work? How does it determine what you shoot at on the screen for the game Duck Hunt?
At a very fast speed (every 5/60ths of a second) the screen will turn completely blue and a white square box will be at the same position of the duck in an x/y coordinate.
When you press the trigger, you are activating a small light sensor inside the gun that is sensitive to color (light frequency) changes. By the time you press the trigger, it will send to the CPU the color it registered (the one it was facing directly in front of it). So, if your aiming was correct, the phototransistor will send a signal to the CPU matching that of white light. If you missed, that is, you shot anything but the duck, the diode will register blue light, and the CPU will know you didn't hit the duck.
