QUESTION NO. P72-7: Philips C2082DAS/II monitor whose line transistor THD4oo, serigraphied V815, on the main board, is in short circuit. I cannot find its characteristics or an equivalent. I have checked the flyback capacitors, they look good.
ST Microelectronics has obsoleted the THD400. If this is the Philips unit made by Fimi (FCC# begins with GZM), it has been suggested to modify the chassis to accept a 2SC3998 for V815 replacement. In addition to the installing the 2SC3998, which will need a retainer clip, and mica insulator with heatsink grease, the modification also requires removing V841, C883, and C884, and installing a jumper wire in place of C884. Be advised that if the THD400 shorted along with other faulty components, the replacement may also blow, if those are not also fixed. Check out R807, all the HV rectifiers = all "BYV" types, & BY584 (this one has a Vforward > 6 Volts!), all the HV Polypropylene snubber caps, microfuses, and coils L807, L802, L803 (T803, & R910, if present). Other common failures are the focus assembly module (gives focus/brightness fluctuations), or the flyback itself (HV-Failure).
